The story of these two characters has its roots in Greek mythology, according to which Pygmalion personifies a skilled sculptor from Cyprus, known for his extraordinary talent, but also because of his aversion to women. Failing to find a real woman who possesses the ideal beauty that he has in mind, the young man finds himself in a position to create it with his art, falling in love with Galatea, a sculpture of him. But in this work the myth evolves and is transformed in a completely unexpected way. As highlighted by the central panel of the triptych, the male and female profiles are found mirroring each other: if on the one hand it is Pygmalion who creates the story, on the other it is Galatea herself who completes and defines the narrative. Both find themselves being advocates in unison of their own destiny, against the backdrop of the classical myth, which evokes the power of love and art to give life and meaning to beauty, as well as exploring themes such as desire, devotion and transformation.
